Security and Risk Management Services to the Mining & Hydro Carbon Industries
Identification of the specific and relative risks any company may face to its existing operations or when expanding into new countries are among the most significant issues facing any company. This is particularly true in the hydrocarbon, construction and mining industries where operations are often sited in inhospitable or politically challenging environments that may pose physical, as well as environmental challenges.
FSS can undertake Risk and Vulnerability Assessments (RAVAs’) utilising experienced and qualified personnel at new or existing sites. Results will be presented with recommendations to mitigate or manage any threats identified, so that the client can fully comprehend the spectrum of risk and threat he faces and therefore be able to plan and budget accordingly.
For Greenfield projects or those in unfamiliar territories, FSS can provide valuable information about local conditions in terms of issues that cross religious, tribal, or political divisions. Whilst carrying out RAVAs’ FSS will undertake site visits and fact-finding missions to the specific area of proposed operations to ensure the risk brief is accurate, reliable and up to date.
At the implementation stage FSS can supply consultancy, co-ordination, security or protective site security management services throughout the project cycle.

Guard Force Training & Management
The FSS approach is to identify the risk and threats facing the facility for which services are required, the likely duties and responsibilities of the guard force when deployed, the equipment and training necessary to carry out their duties, and the guard force manning levels needed to secure the facility.
FSS will undertake the selection, training, equipping, deployment and management of local guard forces. Facilities for this can range from class and lecture room facilities at the client’s headquarters to makeshift facilities onsite at the Clients’ project sites.
FSS will recruit, manage, supervise and train guard forces for the physical protection of refineries, pipelines, mines, airports, harbors, construction sites or other key installations.
The standards and syllabus of the South African Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) has been adopted to ensure that “local national” guards are trained by FSS’s qualified instructors to successive levels of competency required for each post following the E to A grade syllabus. This syllabus has gained wide recognition and indeed has been closely followed by the United Kingdom Security Industry Authority (SIA).
FSS is aware that the Client may wish to project a certain image and this is taken into account during the recommendation stage after the conclusion of the Risk and Vulnerability Assessment phase of the Consultancy. FSS will assist and advise with a choice of Corporate or Site uniforms, dress and equipment.
